The 2nd Joint Symposium on Gastric and Esophageal Cancer between Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital and the National Cancer Center Hospital(Japan) was Successfully Held in Tianjin
On December 14, 2024, the 2nd Joint Symposium on Gastric and Esophageal Cancer between Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute & Hospital(TMUCIH) and the National Cancer Center Hospital (NCCH, Japan) was successfully held in Tianjin. The delegation of NCCH, led by President Yosuyuki Seto, included specialists in gastric surgery, gastrointetinal medical oncology, esophageal medical oncology and esophageal surgery. The Symposium focused on “gastric and esophageal cancer,” with the participation of directors, experts and researchers from departments of gastric cancer, gastrointestinal medical oncology, esophageal cancer, minimally invasive esophageal surgery and radiation oncology at TMUCIH.

Prof. Yukinori Yamagata and Prof. Hirokazu Shoji from NCCH(Japan), and Prof. Deng Jingyu and Prof. Deng Ting from TMUCIH delivered reports on topics “Standard Surgical Treatment for Gastric Cancer in Japan” “Molecular Targeted Therapy for Gastric Cancer” “Analysis of the Impact of Early Gastric Cancer Lymph Node Metastasis Risk on Standardized Clinical Gastric Surgery” and “Immunotherapy for Advanced Gastric Cancer”.
Esophageal Cancer Session
NCCH(Japan)’s President Yasuyuki Seto and Prof. Tang Peng, Vice Director of Esophageal Cancer Dept. from TMUCIH, co-chaired the esophageal cancer session.
Prof. Shun Yamamoto and Prof. Koshiro Ishiyama from NCCH(Japan), and Prof. Gong Lei, Prof. Jiang Hongjing, and Prof. Pang Qingsong from TMUCIH delivered reports on topics “Current Status and Future Perspective of Chemotherapy for Esophageal Cancer” “Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy for Esophageal Cancer” “Analysis of Lymph Node Efficacy after Neoadjuvant Therapy for Locally Advanced Esophageal Cancer” “Recent Development of Esophageal Surgery at TMUCIH” and “Introduction to Clinical Research of Esophageal Cancer Radiotherapy Group at TMUCIH” .
The participating experts engaged in discussions on the latest progress and research findings of diagnostic techniques, treatment methods and clinical trials, actively interacted with on-site scholars and created a strong academic atmosphere.
The Japanese specialists also visited the Laboratory of Pancreatic Cancer Prevention and Treatment Research Center and Clinical Simulation Training Education Center at TMUCIH. During the visit, the experts showed great interest in the advanced medical equipment and took the initiative to operate the instruments. They highly praised the hospital’s high level of technological and digital treatment methods.
The Joint Symposium is an important academic event for TMUCIH and NCCH (Japan) and will serve as an important platform for clinical and research exchanges. The successful holding of this year’s Joint Symposium has injected new vitality into the cooperation.
